"The wise man looks into space, and does not regard the small as too little, nor the great as too big; for he knows that there is no limit to dimensions." - Lao-tse

The ability to imagine.

The vision to create.

The commitment to succeed.

No detail so small

that it does not merit attention.

No idea so big

that it cannot be accomplished.

I believe in dreams.

I believe in their fulfillment.

As an architect, my ultimate goal is to design houses that fill their occupants with wonder and delight. Houses where rooms flow easily from one to the next, each distinctive and inviting. Where moving through the house reveals a dramatic unfolding of shapes, spaces, and views. Where the interplay of light and shadow creates an ever-changing palette of colors and moods. Where the house, itself, inspires, nurtures and celebrates the lives of those within.... My goal is to design houses that fulfill dreams.

I have over twenty years experience with residential architecture in both California and North Carolina. In 1976, I graduated from the School of Architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans. In 1986, I began my own architectural practice. I'm currently certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and am licensed in North Carolina and California. I hold memberships in the American Solar Energy Society and the North Carolina Solar Energy Association. I live in Chapel Hill with my wife, childrens book reviewer Susie Wilde, and our two children.

"An impeccably designed residence... an estate that recalls a more gracious era of elegance and charm. The flowing floorplan includes several magnificent entertainment areas... and the living room, with its dramatic ocean and harbor views, overlooks a fantasy of waterfalls and majestic rocks below..."

"We are really excited about this wonderful house. It is truly a work of Art! You have shown us ideas we never could have imagined; the way you connected the front and back of the house with an atrium really gives us two houses with a bridge of space.... You have both creativity and competence, a rare combination."

"Our contractor made several comments about how easy it was for everyone to follow Ron's plans and how his attention to details made our construction go smoothly and quickly. We couldn't help but notice that this wasn't the case for some of our friends who were having homes built at the same time."

"We love our house!! Ron did such a great job of organizing our fragmented thoughts into something beautiful. We're planning to add on in a couple years, and we've already asked Ron to design it. He's the only person we would even consider."

I love what I do, and I think it shows.

For me, understanding a client's dream is the most important factor in creating a successful custom home. Other architectural considerations like passive solar design, barrier-free accessibility, and the use of renewable resources are also important to me.

I prefer to remain fully involved in all phases of the projects I undertake. To maintain this high level of service, I am careful about the number of projects I take on.
